GNOME is a first-class citizen under openSUSE; I really prefer GNOME.

Anybody interested in joining the opensuse-ux mailing-list?

From your description of the menu it sounds like you tested GNOME, somewhat of a second class citizen in openSUSE. Perhaps you should try the KDE edition, the menu for which there certainly was usability testing ( http://en.opensuse.org/Kickoff )

Oh,
forgot to mention that the installation process takes a lot of time if you allow it to download and update the packages from the internet. Just tick-off the online repositories from the start of the installation. In my case I downloaded the full dvd, installed the KDE base system withouth the online repositories and it took like half hour. You can then later use Yast to add the repositories and update the software while you comfortably surf the net or something :)

Hi.
There is actually a livecd ( http://news.opensuse.org/?p=489 ) I´m not entirely sure if one can also install from the cd, it would seem so based on the article though.
You do have a point about the user experience problems, but I am sure that with time also these things will be corrected, just look at how much we already have overcome. I would recommend that you would also test the KDE side of OpenSuse, which in my opinion is the more mature one and has more OpenSuse flair. In my opinion the KDE start menu is the best there is, I also don´t like the Gnome startmenu hack.
